Jamie’s vast experience implementing residential and municipal green stormwater projects makes her uniquely qualified to talk about stream conservation. The bulk of the webinar will focus on residential-scale green stormwater projects ( rain gardens, depaving, lawn replacement) that benefit streams. While many aspects of our built landscapes need to be changed to protect our waterways, there are meaningful actions we can take at home. Learn more about the history of these post offices and the role they have played in creating a sense of place in our community! The township’s post offices, however (like others across the nation), were also designed to reflect and celebrate local architectural traditions. These buildings, which survive, were constructed using plans that were standardized for post offices of the era. Four of these post offices were planned for communities in Lower Merion Township: Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Bala Cynwyd, and Haverford. Roosevelt’s Public Works Administration funded the construction of more than 400 post offices in the United States. Light refreshments will be served at the park. We will then walk the three blocks to Linwood Park, a 1 acre “parken” that used to be a parking lot, where we will be welcomed by Chris Leswing of the Friends of Linwood Park, who will tell the story of the park, its plantings, and its people.Įxpect to spend an hour or so on Delmont Avenue and arrive at Linwood Park by 11:30 am. We will be exploring the projects and gardens of the neighbors, some of whom will be on hand to chat with. Be inspired and ask questions about projects that include depaving, rain gardens, garden expansions using native plantings, and downspout planters that capture stormwater to reduce flooding and soil erosion. Delmont Green Street is an ongoing project that with the support of enthusiastic neighbors and generous funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation has installed residential-scale green stormwater infrastructure.
